Patchwork Quilts

Patchwork quilts are the most traditional of all quilting styles, and every design tells a story.  Put a twist on tradition and convey your own story with flair using traditional or contemporary designs.  Bring a vision of your perfect quilt, or let us offer suggestions for creating your own Legacy using your fabrics and our expertise.

Though quilts have been grouped to help visitors envision possible uses,

any quilt or design can be customized to meet your special needs or occasion.

Brights - 100x92 Patchwork

After my mother died of breast cancer, I wanted to make a quilt using her clothes that was as bright and vibrant as she.  This pattern embodies such life and movement that it reminds me of her every time I see it.

Trapp Family V (Wendy's Quilt)- 60x74 String Patchwork

Pieces of over 100 different fabrics as varied as antique feedsacks, denim overalls, pinafores, and hair ribbons come together in this classic American patchwork quilt.

The fifth of five in the Trapp Family series.

Hardesty Double Wedding Ring - 36x60 Patchwork & Appliqué

Cool and neutral colors from a grandfather's shirts, pants and ties dance together beautifully, carrying on the bright circle of a family's love.

James Family I (Haley's Cathedral Windows) - 43x70 Patchwork

A father's denim, a grand-daughter's snippets, a hint of lace and a grandmother's love come together in this eye-catching Cathedral Windows design.

The first in a series of five done for the James Family.

Personal Angels  - 40x58 Patchwork

Made to mirror the personality of the recipient and utilizing her dear mother's fabrics, a host of angels stand ready on this twin-sized work of art to provide comfort, joy and memories in the years ahead.

Mom's Feedsacks & Dad's Denim - 40x75 Patchwork & Rag-Edge Appliqué

The rag-edge appliqué in this quilt perfectly accents the use of beautiful antique fabrics.  Made from her mother-in-law’s stash of feedsacks over 50 years old and denim farm overalls belonging to her father-in-law, upon receipt of the quilt this client wrote, “I can just see them in the kitchen at the farm -  my father-in-law helping to dry dishes using some of the very fabrics used in this quilt”.   “It’s beautiful!”

Indian Blanket - 60x80 Patchwork

Prepared for a ‘southwestern’ themed bedroom suite, this fiery quilt uses a wide array of shirts, skirts and upholstery fabrics to achieve the hot and cool feel of the southwestern desert that inspired it.

Bearpaws - 40x50 Patchwork

Made from the same fabrics as Personal Angels, but with a slightly more masculine 'bearing', this quilt was given as a special remembrance to the client's brother.

Peterson's Greens -50x60 Patchwork

After the untimely death of her husband, this client requested that quilts be made from his clothing for each of her three children.  By utilizing the embroidered names and logos from his shirts and pockets from jeans, the memories were made even more distinct.

When asked how these Christmas quilts had been received, she rejoined, “It was almost like he was there with us.”

James Family III (Jennie's String Angles) - 45x77 Patchwork

Brights, brights - what to do with all those brights?!  Why let them run wild, of course, with a little help from our friends black and white.  Remnants from childhood clothing fabrics and a mother's enduring love are united in this dynamic quilt for a first-born daughter.

The third in a series of five done for the James Family.

Reflections (How Does Your Garden Grow?)- 38x66 Patchwork & Rag Edge Appliqué

Designed to represent moody pools of shadow and light scattered amid living foliage, this lovely wallhanging/lap quilt mixes verdant greens with hand-dyed purples and hand-painted backdrops.  Obscuring and muting the realities and frustrations of everyday life, a garden can be a world unto itself where true reflection can be found.
