"To look backward for a while is to refresh the eye, to restore it,

and to render it the more fit for its prime function of looking forward." - Margaret Fairless Barber

Grandma's Fabrics Quilts TM

Because 'grandmas' hold a special place in our hearts, as well as often holding a treasure trove of family heirlooms, they deserve some special quilts in their honor.  Hankies, aprons, embroidered dresser scarves, pillow cases, tea towels, and feedsack fabrics can be turned into beautiful quilts!   Resurrect these treasures from the past and give them new life for generations to come.

Though quilts have been grouped to help visitors envision possible uses,

any quilt or design can be customized to meet your special needs or occasion.

Crazy Hearts - approx 15x15 each

After the death of her grandfather, a client sought a way to create a special remembrance of him for each member of her family.  By using his neck-ties to create these individual quilted wallhangings, each of her relations received a special remembrance of Grandpa in a lovely piece of quilted art.

Cassatt's Family Constellation - 37x37 Patchwork

Utilizing fabrics from her maternal and paternal families all the way back to her great-grandparents, Cassatt’s quilt utilizes fun embroidered, painted and fabric motifs from sources as varied as its familial donors.

Sylvia’s Quilt - 86x90 'Grandma's Fabrics'

Another treasure from the past, this hand pieced Double Wedding Ring quilt top sat unfinished in a box for years and was nearly thrown out in a flurry of cleaning!   Luckily, it was rescued and careful finishing and quilting have given it new life, to be enjoyed as a family heirloom for generations to come.

Mom's Feedsacks & Dad's Denim - 40x75 Patchwork & Appliqué

The rag-edge appliqué in this quilt perfectly accents the use of beautiful antique feedsack fabrics.  Made from her mother-in-law’s stash of feedsacks from the 1930's-40's and denim overalls belonging to her father-in-law, upon receiving the quilt this client wrote, “I can just see them in the kitchen at the farm -  my father-in-law helping to dry dishes using some of the very fabrics used in this quilt..."  “It’s beautiful!”

Blue Embroidery - Detail  120x120 'Grandma's Fabrics'

The hand-embroidery on this lovely quilt was done years ago by a client’s mother, but the quilter passed away before the project was complete.   Legacy Quilts completed the remaining quilt squares and finished the quilt for the client, bringing it to life and creating a special remembrance of the past that had been boxed away for years.

Grandma's Flower Baskets-

26x26 Patchwork

Segments of pillowcases, cloth napkins, dish towels and dresser scarves hand-embroidered by my grandmother before her marriage are the focal point of this lovely little wallhanging.  Note how the machine-embroidered border accents the union of antique embroidery and contemporary quilting, helping to focus memories of the past.

Mom's Delight - 43x43 'Grandma's Fabrics'

In this quilt, a colorful scarf makes a beautiful central medallion, framed with velvet borders that add richness and texture.  It is an eye-catching treat on the wall of my studio, reminding me every day to live life to the fullest.
